Having been a soldier
As an individual who spent time in the military, I find that a change from military to civilian life was a strange bit of time. In the military, you are told what to wear, when to wear it, and where to be at any given time.
Then, you are free, all of a sudden you can go on a vacation farther than 200 miles away without having to get permission. I can call in sick. I can rest on the weekend. My day isn't eighteen hours.
It's a complete switch. So, you are always a soldier even when the uniform comes off.
