In the brief moments before disaster

Have you ever found yourself in a tough situation, one where you knew terrible things were about to happen, but you could do nothing about it? Things become very slow; one becomes very aware of every minute detail.

The smell in the air, the breeze in your face, how hot it was... So much, yet it all takes place in a very brief few moments. I find that falling does that to me everytime. Slowly, I feel that I have lost balance. Even slower, I begin to find myself going to the floor. Over and over, it plays in your mind.

Can I stop it? Can I catch myself on something, anything? But, even the best trained athlete will tell you that there is a brief moment where they might have been able to stop the impending fall. Not everytime. Not in every situation. All of trying and for what?

To save a scraped knee or a bruised ego? It is not worth it, take the fall. Take the bit of pain from the fall. The thing to remember after a fall?

You get up. It sounds simple, but after any situation where you have stumbled; you only have to get up. To fight your way to complete whatever you were doing. The easiest action will sometimes feel like a ton of bricks fell on top of you. And standing will take all of your will and effort. But simply remember...

You GET UP!
